If you missed it, do not worry — the South Town neighborhood is worth visiting any weekend. Walk the streets, grab coffee at a local shop, and explore the area around South Court Street, one of the most desirable in the city with a mix of historic homes, newer construction, and easy downtown access.

The event organizers put on an incredible day, and for anyone who has been considering a move to the area, there will be plenty more community events to experience as we head into fall. The next one to watch for is Erin Nicole's Jazz In The Blue on Medina Public Square this Thursday, August 27.

There is plenty happening across the region over the next two weeks. Here is what stands out:

• Wade Oval Wednesdays — August 20, University Circle, Cleveland. Concluded. The weekly concert series wrapped another great evening in University Circle. The neighborhood remains one of Cleveland's most vibrant cultural hubs, with the Cleveland Museum of Art, Natural History Museum, and Severance Music Center all within walking distance.
• Jon Batiste with The Cleveland Orchestra — August 20, Blossom Music Center, Cuyahoga Falls. Concluded. Five-time Grammy winner Jon Batiste performed with the Cleveland Orchestra at the stunning outdoor Blossom Music Center. If you missed it, Blossom is still hosting concerts through Labor Day weekend, and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park surrounding it is worth a visit any weekend.
• Cleveland Wing Week — August 17–23, across Cleveland. Concluded. The region's biggest wing festival wrapped yesterday, with participating restaurants and bars across Cuyahoga County offering specials and creative flavors throughout the week.
• Asian Lantern Festival at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo — Through August 23. Concluded. Over 50 larger-than-life lantern displays, live entertainment, and Asian cuisine marked the final weekend of this spectacular evening outing. The Metroparks Zoo remains a fantastic family destination year-round.
• Westside Block Party: A Southeast Asian Festival — August 23, Edgewater Park, Cleveland. Concluded. A celebration of Southeast Asian culture with food vendors, live performances, and family activities on the shores of Lake Erie wrapped yesterday. Edgewater Park and Cleveland's near-west side neighborhoods are worth exploring any weekend.
• Akron Pride Festival — August 22, downtown Akron. Concluded. A celebration of inclusion and community with live performances, vendors, and a parade through Summit County's vibrant downtown. A reminder that Akron's downtown is undergoing a fantastic revitalization worth seeing for yourself.
• Lexington Blueberry Festival — August 20–23, Lexington, Ohio. Concluded. A family tradition with bluegrass music, artisan vendors, and enough blueberry treats to fill a weekend. Just a short drive from Medina in nearby Richland County.
• Cleveland Water Lantern Festival — August 22, Cleveland. Concluded. A magical evening event where thousands of floating lanterns lit up the water. Part of a larger festival with food, music, and community. Keep an eye on next year's date.
• NFL Preseason: Cleveland Browns vs. Buffalo Bills — August 22, Huntington Bank Field. Concluded. The Browns wrapped their second preseason game this past Saturday. Football season is almost here — one more reason Northeast Ohio comes alive in the fall.

• Stewart's Caring Place Butterfly Gala — August 29, Hinckley. The 23rd annual gala benefiting cancer support services in Northeast Ohio. A meaningful evening in one of Summit County's most beautiful natural settings, with the Hinckley Reservation and Worden's Ledges nearby.
• Cleveland Garlic Festival — August 29–30, Cleveland. A beloved Northeast Ohio tradition featuring garlic-themed food from dozens of vendors, live music, cooking demonstrations, and the region's most flavorful weekend of the year. Held at the Shaker Historical Society grounds.
• One World Day — August 30, Cleveland Cultural Gardens. A celebration of Cleveland's incredible diversity with cultural performances, international cuisine, and tours of the historic Cultural Gardens along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Free admission. • Cleveland Oktoberfest I — September 4–7, Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds, Berea. One of the region's most popular fall traditions with German food, beer, live music, and family-friendly activities over Labor Day weekend. A perfect kickoff to the fall season and a great excuse to explore Berea and the surrounding southwestern Cuyahoga County suburbs.
• Akron City Festival — September 5–6, Downtown Akron. This year the festival expanded to two days with a parade down Main Street to Lock 3, plus a library showcase, youth talent showcase (ballet, music, dance, fashion), and family activities. A fantastic back-to-school celebration and a perfect opportunity to experience Akron's revitalized downtown and the neighborhoods that make Summit County a great place to live.
• Made in Ohio Art & Craft Festival — September 4–6, Hale Farm & Village, Akron. Over 100 Ohio artisans showcase their work at the historic Hale Farm & Village in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. A wonderful way to experience the creativity of Northeast Ohio while exploring the beautiful CVNP corridor communities like Bath, Richfield, and Boston Heights.
• Cleveland Taco Fest — September 4–6, Jacobs Pavilion, Cleveland. A Labor Day weekend tradition with tacos from dozens of vendors, live music, and a lively atmosphere on the Cleveland lakefront. A delicious way to spend an afternoon exploring the Ohio City and Detroit-Shoreway neighborhoods.
• Cleveland National Air Show — September 5–7, Burke Lakefront Airport. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels headline this Labor Day weekend tradition featuring military and civilian flight demonstrations, static aircraft displays, and STEM activities for kids. One of the most iconic events in the Cleveland calendar.
• Rubber City Jazz and Blues Festival — September 10–12, Akron. Three days of live jazz and blues performances across multiple venues in downtown Akron. A celebration of Summit County's rich musical heritage and a wonderful opportunity to explore Akron's revitalized downtown and surrounding neighborhoods.
• Medina Fall Festival — September 26, Medina Public Square. Hay maze, pumpkin painting, petting zoo, chili cook-off, and live music on the Square. One of the most beloved family traditions in Medina County and a perfect introduction to the community for families considering a move.

Farmers Markets Are in Full Peak Season

Late August is the absolute peak for Northeast Ohio's growing season, and our farmers markets are bursting with the best produce of the year. Sweet corn, tomatoes, peaches, melons, zucchini, and peppers are at their prime right now. The Wadsworth Farmers Market runs Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon through September 26, with select Wednesday evening markets. The Main Street Medina Farmers Market on the Public Square is also running weekly. Visiting a farmers market is one of the simplest and most authentic ways to experience a community — the vendors, the shoppers, the downtown energy all tell you something real about the neighborhood.

Mortgage Rate Context for Late August

Mortgage rates are currently hovering around 6.65% on the 30-year fixed, essentially flat from where they were two weeks ago. After the small spike in early August, rates have settled into a stable range between 6.5% and 6.7%. What that means for buyers: the monthly payment you calculate today is going to be the monthly payment you get. There is no meaningful volatility to fear, but there is also no rate drop on the immediate horizon to wait for.

Here is what I tell every buyer: if the numbers work for your budget today, buy the home. You can refinance a rate later. You cannot go back and buy the home that sold to someone else while you waited. The rate environment is stable, not alarming. The real risk right now is not rates — it is running out of options as the inventory shrinks into September.

Across the counties I track, the late-August picture looks like this:

• Medina County — Median home prices around $330,000, with Medina City closer to $311,000. Appreciation running 4.0% year-over-year in the city. Inventory is tight but active, with homes averaging about 22 days on market.
• Summit County — Median of $250,000 with just 1.9 months of supply and 19 days on market. Still the tightest market in the region. Preparation and speed matter.
• Cuyahoga County — Record first-half median of $236,400 with the most inventory improvement of any county in the region. More options, more negotiating room for buyers.
